As a Chicago native, Chef McCarthy has trained and worked in his native city for more than 27 years. After going through the Washburn Training School, Peter continued his education at the Culinary Institute of America. He is a gold medal winner from the 1995 Milwaukee American Culinary Federation Chef’s competition and has acquired significant experience in all facets of the restaurant and hospitality industry.
In this business, experience is everything and Chef McCarthy has benefited from a wide range. From private clubs, where he learned the importance of keeping his menu fresh and interesting for his regular customers, to multi-million dollar operations where value, quality and pace were important to high-end off premise catering where presentation, and the special finishing touches make all the difference, Peter has grown and thrived with each new challenge.
After becoming a resident of the northwest side Chef McCarthy went looking for a restaurant that served quality seafood in his neighborhood, but came up with nothing, and so, Pier 5736 was born. It was time for Peter to put to use all his knowledge, talent and determination to create a comfortable, family friendly place where fresh, quality seafood was the main course.
The concept was simple -- use only the best and freshest fish, produce, and dairy products. Prepare them with a straightforward, classic approach and compliment everything with friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere. Pier 5736 is Chef McCarthy’s vision for the perfect restaurant.
In addition to cooking, our Chef also enjoys a good hand of cards, rock and roll and White Sox baseball and every now and then a nice Irish whiskey, and his favorite fish -- halibut.
